Parkside Café:

I joined David and his workmates for lunch at the Parkside Café this past week. Parkside is located in what used to be a Big boy.

We walked in and seated ourselves, waiting for the rest of our party to arrive. We ordered diet cokes, and I squealed in delight to realize that they have my favorite type of ice.

Squeal!

I looked over the menu, which is pretty varied. Among the things on it that I noticed immediately—fried green beans, baklava, a list of nifty coffee drinks with flavored syrups, various desserts, and breakfast served all day.

That's right count 'em--two sausage patties

I felt kind of like I was in a dream where I went to a restaurant filled with lots of my favorite things. Baklava, fried green beans, flavored coffee drinks. If I saw a few taps and a playpen full of cuddly kittens, I would have wondered if I'd overslept.

I wanted to see how the fried green beans measured up, so I ordered those ($4.95). I also still felt like breakfast, so I ordered a sausage, egg and cheese biscuit. ($2.95) My lunch mates ordered a cheeseburger ($5.75), a bleu cheese burger, (also $5.75) and a buffalo chicken sandwich. ($5.75) They came out fairly quickly and were very hot.

Kettle chips, another favorite thing

I enjoyed the green bean fries—they were a little crispier than Friday’s. I also liked my breakfast sandwich. Everyone enjoyed their burgers.

I’d go back to Parkside again. It would have to be early, however, because they close at 3 PM.

I think David said it best: “Parkside café is like a loveable, mutty dog. It might never win any dog shows, but it’s cuddly, and excels where it counts.” [and it has Baklava!]
